Over Labor Day weekend, Sept 2012, the Art of Living center at Metuchen, New Jersey hosted an Art of Silence course with senior teacher, Azah Mulchand. Combining guided meditation, silence, yoga and breathing techniques the course gives us much-needed rest in our hectic lives.

Congratulations to Leena, Sumathi, Amrapalee, Nilima, Sunil, Kumud and the other volunteers for organizing the course and thank you to Azah Mulchand for teaching it! Here are photos by Satish Balasubramanian of Meru Designs.

“In meditation you get access to the quiet mind,
to that something in you which can bring more energy to you,
In meditation you get access to the intuitive ability
which is deep within you.”
~~ Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Terminal Condition

fall colors at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being at Boone, North Carolina

by Birjoo Vaishnav

It is official.
I have a terminal condition.
It is both good news and bad.
Makes you happy, makes you sad…
When I accept it as a gift,
it opens me up to its own volitions…
Frees me of the fever,
that makes me chase tiring desires and ambitions!
It flows like a flooded river high,
Bubbling, yet still, whirling yet tight,
…Sweeping me before I realize
that what it can sweep away was never mine!

This thing makes you dissolve and disappear,
(Not that you can anyway be apparent- you are the seer)
Some call it death, some meditation, love or light,
Just a reminder that timeless, yet it is going to end,
Makes it so special, so amazing, so bright…

So fleeting, and yet so lovely,
My terminal condition
Is called life!!!

Priyank Palcholi, Mississauga, Ontario:
“I have spent my best 38 days of my life at the ashram. It was an amazing experience. I got to learn so much about myself, my abilities and my capacity. I would recommend all of you to experience this opportunity. Only fortunate ones get to experience this opportunity. Be there and be blessed.”

Lakshmi Ganesan, Miami:
“I cannot forget the summer of 2012 in the Boone ashram. I have made friends for life. The sadhana (meditation practice), seva (volunteering) and satsang (getting together) were fun-filled and transformed me easily from a worrier back to a warrior. I feel privileged and proud to have had this chance to serve Guruji and to have shared this time and space that I did with Him.”

Shrungi Panchal, New Jersey:
“Its hard for me to describe my experience and put it in words. There are so many things that I would like to share. This was a golden opportunity to be a part of the seva (volunteering) team and witnessing the ashram transforming to become the best international center for meditation and well being.
The one month that I spent here has made me so grateful to my Guru. I could see all my weaknesses and tendencies coming up and in the end it made me a stronger individual than before. I loved the sadhana, meditation, Guru Pooja and satsang that happened everyday. The seva opportunities helped me bring out many skills and I learnt a lot in the process. I wish to come back and do seva with the next opportunity I get as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have made some great friends and I couldn’t have asked for more.”
